Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: Feb. 9

A snapshot of some recent police activity in the town.

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town.

Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction.

  • A motorist was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries after they were injured in a robbery in Mastic Beach on Monday, police said. The person had been parked in the northbound lane of William Floyd Parkway just before 7 p.m. when they were approached outside their vehicle by an assailant carrying what appeared to be a weapon and who tried to take property from them, according to police. Police did not release any further details.
  • A 17-year-old from Rocky Point was charged with second-degree burglary on Jan. 31 after Suffolk cops say he stole two cars from a Rocky Point home. It is not clear how the teen gained access to the property or if anyone was home at the time of the burglary. The teen, whose name has not been released due to his status as a minor, was also charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for not having the owner's consent to drive the vehicles, police said.
  • A 33-year-old Mastic Beach man was charged with second-degree menacing with a weapon on Saturday, police said. Walter Podejko threatened someone with a pistol during an argument at a Cyprus Drive home at about 11 p.m. on Friday, according to police.
  • A 40-year-old Rocky Point man was charged with third-degree burglary after police say he broke into Orange Theory Fitness on Route 25A on Friday. Michael Kinderman went inside the gym at about 2 a.m. and stole a laptop, tablet, and "other machinery," police said.
  • An unoccupied house under renovation in Mastic was burglarized sometime between Saturday and Sunday, police said. A commercial power washer and a saw were stolen from the Eleanor Avenue home, according to police.
  • A Holbrook resident alerted police to a complicated computer scam on Jan. 30, police said. The resident, who lives on Smith Avenue, purchased computer software, and then was offered a bogus refund of more money that allegedly needed to be paid back, according to police.
