GSSC Celebrate World Thinking Day 2022
Girl Scouts Across Suffolk County Participate in Activities and Worldwide Celebrations for World Thinking Day 2022
Commack, NY - The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) recently celebrated World Thinking Day 2022 at the Juliette Low Friendship Center in Bayport. The event, which was attended by 28 Girl Scouts, featured activities and workshops for troops throughout Suffolk County to participate in and work together to foster creativity. The World Thinking Day 2022 theme was “Our World, Our Equal Future: The Environment and Gender Equality," and gave Girl Scouts an opportunity to explore how girls and women are disproportionately affected by climate change. During the event, Girl Scouts also took the Girl Scout Tree Promise, which is a tree planting and conservation initiative designed to help protect the planet from the effects of climate change.
“Our World Thinking Day program and events like it are hallmark activities of the Girl Scout experience and help girls learn more about the world around them,” said Tammy Severino, GSSC’s president and CEO. “Education and exploration gained through events like this continue to strengthen leadership skills and empowerment within our girls.”
World Thinking Day is a global movement that has been celebrated by Girl Scouts all over the world since 1926 to inspire creativity and exploration. Many other Girl Scouts in Suffolk County celebrated World Thinking Day by hosting their own events. Troop 4000 learned about countries around the globe, including Austria, Colombia, England, France, Madagascar, Turkey, and South Korea. During the celebrations, the girls made custom SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) and learned the London Bridge song. Troop 1556 hosted a World Thinking Day event, where Girl Scouts dressed as authentic Madagascar guides and shared authentic items from Madagascar.
World Thinking Day is one of the many programs that the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County continue to host that expose girls to the amazing world around them. As the Girl Scouts continue to take part in and explore these events, the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County continue to create future leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
