Suffolk PD Has 'A Lot Of Resources' Invested In Mastic Beach Rape Case

"This is a horrible incident." - Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said on break-in in which a burglar assaulted a woman on Tuesday.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison says that the department has devoted a lot of resources to apprehending the two suspects wanted in connection with the rape of a woman during a home invasion in Mastic Beach.

Two black males went inside the home and one of them attacked "one of the people" inside the house and raped her," Harrison said.

The pair, who made off with some cash and other property, are possibly in their teens to early 20s, according to Harrison.

Suffolk's Special Victims Section is now investigating the assault.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Dennis Naughton said that he and another person helped the woman after the attack, telling News 12: "She was bleeding from her head and her chest. So, I brought her on the deck and got some towels and called 911."

A neighbor told the outlet that the incident was not a surprise and that it has "never really been a nice neighborhood."

The pair were described as black, and one was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants with a white stripe, while the second was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and light-colored pants, according to police.

In a surveillance video, the pair can be seen walking in the street past the driveway of a home nearby.

Harrison said investigators are hoping that the video will help lead them to the suspects, and urged anyone with information to notify the department.

"We put a lot of resources over to make sure that we apprehend this individual as quickly as possible," he added.

Further details were not released.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call detectives at (631) 852-8791 Crime Stoppers, a confidential police hotline, at 1-800-220-TIPS. Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 Fast Cash reward for information leading to arrests in the case. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
