Man Failed To Provide Sustenance For 76 Cats, 5 Kittens: SPCA
He was charged with animal cruelty after failing to care for 76 cats, 5 of them kittens, all kept in "deplorable" conditions, SPCA says.

MASTIC BEACH, NY — Suffolk County SPCA detectives charged a Mastic Beach man with cruelty to animals on Wednesday, official said.
Barry Powers, 58, was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance for 76 cats, including 5 kittens, the SPCA said.
The cats were removed from the house, which was deemed uninhabitable by the Brookhaven Town building department, the SPCA said. The animals were living in "deplorable" conditions, the SPCA added.

The Suffolk County SPCA thanked the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and the Brookhaven Town building department for their assistance and cooperation.
All of the cats were transported to Brookhaven Animal Shelter for further evaluation; many of the cats needed medical care the SPCA said

Powers is schedule to appear in First District Court on July 22.
SPCA Chief Roy Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. Anyone who witnesses any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County is asked to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
