Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library To Open Mastic Beach Satellite Branch

MASTIC BEACH, NY — The Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library's Mastic Beach Satellite Branch will open on Jan. 14, officials said in an email to the community on Wednesday.
Library officials will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. followed by tours and light refreshments.
The one-story, 7,000 square foot building once housed an Associated food market, the Town of Brookhaven Senior Nutrition Center, and served as village hall for the short-lived Village of Mastic Beach. It has ample parking, an outdoor program space, and a one-acre park across the street, according to the library's website.

The branch will contain a collection of popular reading materials, like bestsellers, children’s books, and DVDs, the website stated. Items requested from the main library and through inter-library loan will be available for pickup at the branch. according to the website.
It will also have furniture and shelving with wheels so they can be moved to rearrange space as needed, the website stated. The adult area will have seating for individual quiet work, computers, and conference rooms, and the children and teen area will have a large number of tables and chairs, several computers, and a small meeting room, according to the website.

The branch's special feature is an outdoor area with possible use for children’s programming, like seasonal story times, as well as active and nature programs, the website stated.
The library's main branch in Shirley is still under construction with an expected completion date of late 2023 or 2024, Newsday reported.
The Mastic Beach Satellite Branch is located at 369 Neighborhood Rd., Mastic Beach.
