Police ID Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Sunrise Highway Crash

The crash occurred Thursday morning, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — Police have identified the motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a Shirley crash Thursday morning as Kevin Flores-Salgado, 21, of Flanders.

According to Suffolk County Police, the crash took place at 6:30 a.m. in the eastbound lane of Sunrise Highway, a quarter mile east of the William Floyd Parkway.

Jean Cassamajor, 54, of North Babylon, was driving a 2005 Toyota Sequoia eastbound on Sunrise Highway when he changed lanes and his vehicle struck a 2017 Kawasaki Ninja that was also traveling east, police said.

The man operating the motorcycle, who has yet to be identified, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with serious injuries; Cassamajor was not injured, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
