Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After House Fire: SPCA
The remains of two dogs were found on the property — one still tethered to the dog house, the SPCA says; two other dogs had no food, water.

BELLPORT, NY — A Bellport woman was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after a fire Monday, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.
SPCA detectives responded to a house fire on Pace Avenue in Bellport after being contacted by Suffolk County Police 5th Precinct officers that there were dogs on the property, the SPCA said.
Cassandra Bright, 50, was charged with neglecting two dogs found tethered on short chains in the backyard without food or water, the SPCA said.

The animals were transported to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. The remains of two other dogs were found on the property, one still tethered in a dog house, the SPCA said. The investigation is ongoing.

Bright is scheduled to appear in First District Court on June 5, the SPCA said.
