Wrong-Way LIE Driver Was High on Drugs: Police
Multiple 911 calls came in from drivers who saw the man heading the wrong way on the LIE Monday night, police say.
SHIRLEY, NY — Following numerous 911 calls from motorists, a New Jersey man was arrested after driving the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway Monday night, police said.
Andrew Haber, 52, of Edgewater, was arrested at 12:20 a.m. on the LIE between Exit 68 and Exit 69 in Shirley and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, second degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving, Suffolk County Police said.
Highway patrol officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the car, which was traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the LIE near Exit 70 at 12:15 a.m., police said.

When officers reached the scene, they observed a 2017 Lincoln sedan traveling the wrong way and initiated a traffic stop between Exit 68 and Exit 69, police said.
Haber was held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday.
