4 Hurt, 2 Critically, in Crash Near Smith Haven Mall

Accident occurred Wednesday night.

Two people are in critical condition following a two-car crash that injured four people near the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove Wednesday night.

According to police, 34-year-old Christopher Ferchland, of Farmingville, was driving a 2007 Lincoln MKL pickup truck west on Route 25 when his vehicle struck a 2015 Honda Crosstour, driven by 50-year-old Jeanette Acevedo, who was traveling east on Route 25 and attempting to make a left hand turn into the Smith Haven Mall parking lot at about 7 p.m.

The pickup truck then hit a utility pole. Ferchland, and his female passenger, who police did not identify, were transported via Nesconset Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where they are listed in critical condition.

Acevedo, of Brentwood, and her female passenger were also transported to Stony and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. No criminal charges have been filed.
