• Long Island driver killed in vicious crash that cuts his car in half (nypost.com) — A 29-year-old driver from Long Island was killed Monday night when his car split in two after crashing off the Northern State Parkway near the New Highway overpass in Smithtown. State police say he was reportedly speeding and driving erratically before the crash, which involved no other vehicles, and are still investigating whether it was accidental or intentional.    

• Smithtown East Defeats East Islip in Lacrosse Semifinals (messengerpapers.com) — Smithtown East boys lacrosse just punched their ticket to the Class B County Championship, knocking off defending champ East Islip 12–9 on their home field. Behind a deep, balanced offense and a dominant third-quarter run, the Bulls improved to 13–3 and now head to Stony Brook University on Saturday morning to face West Islip for a shot at the Long Island title.
