Angela's House Of Long Island Receives $60K Donation From Kohl's

"We are so appreciative of Kohl's for this significant donation to support medically fragile children," Angela's House stated.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Angela's House, an organization that helps families caring for children with special health care needs, announced it received a $60,000 grant from Kohl's as part of its A Community with Heart Program.

The grant was part of $5 million that Kohl’s provided to nonprofits nationwide to support the health and wellness of families this holiday season.

“We are so appreciative of Kohl’s for this significant donation to support medically fragile children, and for their ongoing partnership and dedication to helping our children have a better quality of life,” said Bob Policastro, executive director of Angela’s House. “Having a child with a severe disability is challenging in every aspect of life, from everyday activities to the overwhelming financial responsibilities. It is grants like these that make a real difference.”

Angela's House will use the $60,000 grant toward its Everyday Wishes program to help families pay for medical supplies, equipment, and other support services that cannot be funded through other means. Angela’s House works with hundreds of "extraordinary children and families who have everyday critical needs" that insurance doesn't often cover. Everyday Wishes are provided to children that live at home with their parents as well as the children that live in one of Angela House’s three residential homes.

An Everyday Wish was recently granted for Brayden, an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, and microcephaly with global development delays, according to Angela's House. Brayden got essential and therapeutic equipment for the house including a chair lift to provide accessibility through the home.

"Brayden joined Angela’s House in 2018 at 3 ½ years old," said Melanie, who is Brayden's mom, via a news release. "Our case managers have been so supportive and very easy to connect with! He loves the chair lift, especially to go visit family upstairs! It’s been hard taking care of Brayden’s activities of daily living, so Angela’s House also helped us to remodel his bathroom to make it wheelchair accessible! We are beyond grateful for this miracle of Angela’s House and their commitment to help individuals and families create a life and environment of independence and functional living that some people can’t help take for granted."

Angela's House for 30 years has aided families caring for children with special health care needs that are medically fragile, chronically ill or living with a life-threatening illness. Kohl's has been a long-time supporter of Angela's House, according to the organization. Kohl's associates have volunteered at galas, golf outings, walks, and projects at the Angela's House residential homes.
