Using your fingers or an adjustable wrench, turn the reverse threaded nut on the backside of the flush handle in a clockwise direction to loosen it and slide the nut off the long skinny rod.

Pull the flush handle and the attached long skinny rod out of the hole on the toilet tank and discard of it.
Next, insert the long skinny rod of the new flush handle through the outside of the hole on the toilet tank so that the rod is facing down and carefully push the handle part into the hole.
Slide the nut for the new flush handle up the long skinny rod and use your fingers or an adjustable wrench to tighten the nut in a counter-clockwise direction.
Attach the chain to the end of the long skinny rod on the new flush handle.
Finally, carefully secure the top cover back onto the top of the toilet tank and flush the toilet to ensure the new flush handle is working properly.
