JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Mahalo (a poem)
Wherein JWG, in this final entry from his Grand Hodgepodge, says Thank You. And, Happy New Year, too!
118. Mahalo
Mahalo
Is “Thank You” in the Hawaiian language.
It holds Aloha.
Its simple meaning
Deepens the more I say its syllables.
I am filled with heartfelt thanks.

Ev’ry image I’ve retained
That has a Stranger’s understanding smile
Is as important to me as Yours.
I only hope that my honesty
Won’t be misunderstood as being trite.
I fear I tend to be too sentimental.

Such is my fragile nature.
I look at my words on paper and sulk.
Words can never be my heart’s spirit.
Holding a party
And inviting All who helped me survive
Would not satisfy my Thanks.
I’m grateful.
Simplicity is the best way to say
That word: Mahalo!
