JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Overwhelmed & Slides and Swings (2 poems)
Wherein JWG explores this terra firma and attempts teaching a child the art of swinging.
89. Overwhelmed
Overwhelmed
By opulence in Nature’s scenery
Is a driving force.
Trekking to the top
Of Mountains to see spectacular views
Takes one’s breath away.

There are Divers in Oceans
Who are pioneers in sharing pictures
Of the strange-looking, dark, murky depths.
We are impelled to tour this Planet.
Even clouds and ice are not deterrents
In exploring the terra firma’s expanse.

I prefer the warmer climes
In which to slowly meander and gawk
At the plethora of Earth’s marvels.
I will be honest.
When I travel, comfort is what I seek.
If I’m cold, I can’t enjoy.
There’s plenty
Of places to fill my travelling days
To last a lifetime.
90. Slides and Swings
Slides and Swings
Have taught many to be daring and wild
Testing endurance.
Balancing on Swings
Is a concept new to a two-year-old
Who fell off, but, did not cry.
Getting right back on the Swing
Determined to not slip off of the seat,
Hands gripping the chains with white knuckles.
Being pushed, feeling wind on young cheeks,
Giggles erupting from the soaring Child
Who forgets to balance and falls off again.
No matter to the Young One
Who insists on getting back on the Swing
For another adventurous ride.
When the Swing slows down,
The feet touch the ground running to the Slide.
This “machine” takes no balance.
Equipment
On a playground is a great deal of work
For the Young — and, Old.
