JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Rock Gardens & There's a Voice (2 poems)

Wherein JWG, being taught to stifle yearnings, asks the questions: Why consider the surety of Love? Shouldn't we be wed?

79. Rock Gardens

Rock Gardens
Are structurally sound environments
With micro-climates.

Gathering the Rocks
For a natural looking rock garden
When one has no rocks is hard.

Placing the rocks takes planning.
Then, choosing correct plants for the garden
Is not the easiest to do, too.

Starting in Spring, perhaps, is the best.
At Summer’s end, one can see what plants thrived.
The first Winter is the test for survivors.

The next Spring, one holds one’s breath
Waiting for signs of life between the rocks.
Miraculously, Flowers appear.

After a decade,
One can see if it has been a success.
Patience is necessary.

Rocks, themselves,
Are sculptural elements worth having
With, or without, Plants.

80. There’s a Voice

There’s a voice
Within Me that is screaming to be heard,
But, remains silent.

My vocal chords freeze.
My brain cannot translate what my heart feels.
My fingers refuse to write.

Why speak when no one listens?
Why consider the surety of Love?
Why scribble words that are never read?

I’ve been taught to stifle my yearnings
Even though they are are reciprocated
By someone who feels the same way about me.

We complement each other.
The bond we have developed is golden.
I was taught to wed such a person.

Without law’s consent,
In private, we exchanged little gold rings.
These bands are meant to be seen.

Our Friends know.
We have been true for over three decades.
Shouldn’t we be wed?
