Harbor Country Day School announces a Gnomes for the Gym Benefit Auction to be held on October 19, 2012 at Lombardi’s on the Sound in Port Jefferson. The benefit will feature twenty-five garden Gnomes and nearly three dozen Toadstools imaginatively created by Long Island artisans for auction. Proceeds from the auction will fund a renovation of Harbor’s gym planned for winter 2012/2013.
The event is the brainchild of Harbor Board of Trustees member Adrienne Owen, who is serving as the Event Chair. “Gnomes are enchanted woodland folk and since Harbor Country Day is nestled in the woods of Head of the Harbor, who better to help renovate Harbor’s gym than a troupe of gnomes,” said Mrs. Owen.
The Harbor Gnomes and Toadstools, which are all original and unique in design, are being crafted in fiberglass and measure twenty-nine and eleven inches tall, respectively. Before being considered for participation, artists submitted written proposals and design templates along with portfolio samples to a selection committee. Larissa Grass, Harbor Country Day School’s Artist in Residence had this to say, “One of my most cherished artistic philosophies is to help my community in any way I can using my talents as an artist. It is a philosophy I share with my students at Harbor and the Gnomes for the Gym project was a perfect opportunity to illustrate that important philosophy with the children. It is so lovely that there were so many unique and talented artists who were eager to create for a charitable cause.“
