Fitzpatrick Defeats Rice In NYS Assembly District 8
The incumbent Republican Michael Fitzpatrick leads Democrat challenger Dylan Rice by more than 23,000 votes after Election Day.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Incumbent Republican New York state Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick will hold onto his 8th Assembly District seat, fending off Democrat challenger Dylan Rice.
Fitzpatrick leads Rice by 39,933 votes to 16,514, or a margin of 70.74 percent to 29.25 percent, following Election Day. Absentee ballots are yet to be counted, but there are 20,995 sent ballots in the district — less than Fitzpatrick's 23,419-vote lead. Of those absentee ballots, 8,553 are Democrat, 5,973 are Republican, 705 are Independent and 5,264 are blank.
Neither candidate has responded to Patch's request for comment.

The 8th District covers Smithtown, St. James, Kings Park, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor, and portions of Hauppauge, Commack, and Fort Salonga.
