GORDON RECOGNIZED FOR VISIONARY LEADERSHIP
SMITHTOWN RESIDENT DOREEN GORDON WINS PRESTIGIOUS LONG ISLAND SOCIAL STUDIES AWARD LONG ISLAND SOCIAL STUDIES AWARD

Doreen Gordon, Hauppauge School District’s Director of Social Studies and Business was the recipient of the Long Island Council for the Social Studies Harry C. Charles Outstanding Social Studies Supervisor/Chairperson Award for 2014-2015. Gordon, a Smithtown resident, was nominated for this prestigious award by her Social Studies Department colleagues in recognition of her “humanistic instruction and visionary leadership.”
Founded in the 1950s, the Long Island Council for the Social Studies (LICSS) is the professional organization of teachers and supervisors at the elementary, secondary, college and university levels who work in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. LICSS is a marketplace of ideas, a showcase for new materials, teaching methods, strategies programs and personalities. The Long Island Council has been for years one of the largest (if not the largest) and most active councils affiliated with the National Council for the Socials Studies and the New York State Council for the Social Studies.
