On Thursday, the Smithtown High School West girls volleyball team will host their crosstown rival, Smithtown High School East, for a good cause.
HSW volleyball will hold the team’s annual Dig Pink fundraiser to benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches to further breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. The event begins at 4 p.m. at High School West.
Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts and contributes funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or patient support. HSW volleyball players are holding the fundraiser in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. High School East will host its Dig Pink fundraiser on Oct. 28, with HSW making the trip.
