Kids Learn to PLAY IT SAFE at Millennium Martial Arts

Arming local families with personal safety tools to help kids be the 'Boss of their Bodies'

Nationally recognized child safety expert, author and founder of Safely Ever After, Pattie Fitzgerald, along with Millennium Martial Arts, hosted the Play It Safe workshop, which empowered both children and parents with personal safety skills.

The workshop was held at Millennium Martial Arts on July 25, 2015. Over 75 parents and children participated in this interactive event. Pattie spoke directly to the children - who ranged in age from 4 to 15 - along with their parents about establishing healthy boundaries, being the ‘boss of your body,’ identifying ‘tricky people,’ listening to that ‘uh-oh feeling’ and much more. She spoke of delicate situations in down-to-earth language that was accessible to both children and parents. One mom reported, “Everyone left the room with the tools they need to keep themselves or their children safe! Awesome!”

Millennium Martial Arts is located at 385-11 Veteran’s Memorial Hwy in Smithtown and owned by Hauppauge residents Teri and Mike Blumenthal. This family-oriented school trains adults and children ages 3 and older in traditional Okinawan karate, in addition to offering iKickbox classes and other innovative self-defense and fitness-related programs. The school is also a venue for health, fitness and safety related special events and seminars.
