'Kill All Cops' Graffiti Painted on Long Island Utility Pole

Police were called to the scene just hours after three police officers were fatally shot in Louisiana.

Someone spray painted "Kill All Cops" on a utility pole along a major Long Island roadway, Suffolk Police said.

A call came in at 3:01 p.m. reporting the graffiti on a pole on Middle Country Road near Parsnip Pond Road, just east of the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, police said. Police were on the scene investigating Sunday afternoon.

The discovery comes just hours after three police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were shot and killed in an apparent ambush by a lone gunman. Three other officers were injured in the shooting, in what Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards described as a "heinous attack on law enforcement." The suspect responsible for the shooting, later identified as 29-year-old Gavin Long, of Missouri, was shot dead at the scene, police said.

In Suffolk, police said "additional counter measures were immediately implemented after this attack to ensure the safety of our police officers and the citizens of Suffolk County. The Suffolk County Police Department is in close contact with our law enforcement partners, including the FBI, receiving intelligence and updates on this attack. Modifications to our posture will be implemented as necessary."

Both departments urged the public to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
