Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting the Town of Smithtown.
TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, NY — The new coronavirus outbreak on Long Island and across the nation is having vast impacts in the Town of Smithtown, including the closure of schools and many businesses.
The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. All "non-essential" businesses were ordered to close by Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier in March.

As of Thursday morning, there were 2,320 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Suffolk County, with 138 in the Town of Smithtown. Here's how communities are faring:
- Smithtown: 29
- Commack: 42 (shared with Town of Huntington)
- Kings Park: 20
- Hauppauge: 34 (shared with Town of Islip)
- Nesconset: 17
- St. James: 15
- Nissequogue: 4
- Fort Salonga: 12 (shared with Town of Huntington)

SCHOOLS
All schools in Suffolk County will remain closed until April 15 after Long Island schools were shutdown on March 16.
Parents should check each school district's website for information on online classes, spring recess and changes to the calendar.
BUSINESSES
Town of Smithtown restaurants and bars are offering options such as takeout, curbside pickup, drive-thru and delivery. Residents should check the social media pages or websites of their favorite spots to see which options or deals are available.
HOSPITALS
Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center, at 50 NY-25A, Smithtown, is a 296-bed not-for-profit community hospital and 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation care center, according to its website.
Stony Brook University Hospital, at 101 Nicolls Road, has 603 beds, according to Stony Brook Medicine. The university's iCREATE lab is using 3-D printers to manufacture personal protective equipment, such as face shields, for local hospital personnel and testing site staff.
CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES
The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced that all funerals, weddings and other services at Catholic churches across Long Island are canceled. Earlier in the month, the Diocese said all masses for a month — including all Holy Week and Easter services — would be canceled due to the coronavirus.
The Town of Smithtown Senior Center is closed until further notice, according to the Town of Smithtown website. The Smithtown Municipal Services Facility, at 85 Old Northport Road, will be closed to residents starting Saturday until further notice. Residents are asked to refrain from placing bags of leaves and brush on the curbside temporarily, as the Town's workforce has been cut back to accommodate state workforce reductions. Public access has been restricted at all Town buildings.
Most parks, beaches, playgrounds and washrooms will be locked.
The Smithtown Historical Society canceled all activities and classes through March 31, and all historic buildings will be closed for cleaning.
