Police ID Man Killed After Being Struck By Commercial Truck

The 68-year-old was hit by the truck while it was backing up in the parking lot of a local business Tuesday morning.

NESCONSET, NY - A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a commercial truck at the parking lot of a Nesconset business Tuesday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

Daniel Curcio was driving a commercial truck in reverse in the parking lot of Handy Pantry Shopping Center on 279 Smithtown Boulevard when the vehicle struck a man walking through the parking lot at 9:30 a.m., police said.

The pedestrian, 68-year-od Albert Geerders, of Ronkonkoma, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Curcio, 30, of Nesconset, was not injured.

A vehicle safety check was conducted on scene by the Suffolk County Police Department Motor Carrier Safety Unit.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
