Man Seriously Hurt in Kings Park Crash, Driver Charged With DWI

The single-crash occurred early Sunday, police say.

KINGS PARK, NY - One man was seriously hurt and another was charged with DWI following a single-car crash in Kings Park early Sunday, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, Michael Powell, of Northport, was driving a 2002 Subaru west on Sunken Meadow Road when he lost control of his vehicle, east of the intersection of Kohr Road, and struck a tree at 3:09 a.m.

Dennis Clancy, 24, of Kings Park, Powell’s front seat passenger, was transported via Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.

Powell, 28, was charged with DWI and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Powell’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
