Millers Pond Upgrades Underway In Smithtown, Officials Say
Improvements at Smithtown pond aim to enhance water quality and stabilize levels, officials said.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Work is underway on infrastructure upgrades at Millers Pond aimed at improving water quality and flow, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said.
A new drainage pipe is being installed on the north side of the pond, adjacent to Lawrence Avenue, to help reduce water turbidity, officials said.

The project is being completed alongside the reconstruction of the weir at the pond’s entrance on Maple Avenue. The redesigned weir will allow water to pass on three sides instead of one, increasing flow and providing better regulation of water levels.

Unlike the previous system, which relied on wooden boards to control water height, the new weir is designed to automatically adjust to changes in the pond’s level.
“The new weir will better handle inclement weather,” Romaine said. “It is important that we continue to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure for the surrounding residents.”
