On Warm Winter Day, Trails at David Weld Sanctuary a Great Escape

Above 60-degree day sends locals to the Nissequogue nature preserve to enjoy the trails, bluff and beach.

You'd expect spring fever in March, but on Feb. 1?

That was the case on Wednesday as unseasonable temperatures above 60 degrees sent locals to the David Weld Sanctuary in Nissequogue for brisk walks along the trails, the bluff and the beach.

By late afternoon, the small parking lot along Short Beach Road was packed and people could be seen running or walking along the trails.

While in spring and summer the trails are usually lush and green with trees and vines, the twiggy winter appearance of the preserve was plenty peaceful for visitors.

Enjoy our gallery from the preserve, which is run by The Nature Conservancy, and if you have your own photos from yesterday's warm escape please share them in Your Neighborhood Gallery. We'll surely show off your great photos.
