Owner Of Ebo Hill Mansion Begins Plans To Rebuild Historic Home

The 173-year-old home was destroyed in a fire last month, but owner Richard Albano made a promise to the community to completely rebuild it.

SMITHTOWN, NY - The owner of the historic Ebo Hill mansion that burnt down in devastating fire last month is planning on rebuilding and bringing the history back to Smithtown.

The fire broke out at the 173-year-old house on Edgewood Avenue on March 26 just two weeks after it was purchased by Richard Albano, of Deer Park, who planned to fully restore the mansion.

Luckily, no one was in the house at the time of the fire so no injuries were reported, but the 16-bedroom mansion was completely destroyed.

However, Albano didn't let that stop him from achieving his dream of bringing this piece of history back to its former glory.

Just a few days after the fire, Albano promised residents he will completely rebuild the home and replicate it exactly the way it was.

Since then, he has been keeping residents updated through the Mansion at Ebo Hill Facebook page.

According to an update on the page, Albano already has set of floor plans from 1908 that show the exact measurements of each room and had a local Smithtown architect turn them into a set of plans to be submitted to the town.

Earlier this month, Albano and his crew started working on the wall in front of the home near the road.

"It was originally going to be done at the end but since I'm at a standstill I figured I might as well do it now. If you saw it as you drove by the height of the wall is and will remain at 2 feet and will eventually have 2 beautiful gates to replicate the original gates that were there many years ago," he wrote on the page. "I didn't want the wall to block anyone's view of the home or have it look overpowering."

He also stated that he has retained Smithtown resident Todd O'Connell as the architect that will be making up the set of plans for the building permit to replicate the home exactly as it was.

"Tom has gone so far as to count the bricks on the chimney and has measured the height and width of the columns to make sure everything is exactly the same," Albano wrote. "It's good to see someone that shares the pride in this project as I do."

Most recently, on Saturday Albano along with a large group of residents who volunteered to help, planted 86 shrubs on the rear perimeter of the property,
