Police: Four People Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

More than 500 cars passed through checkpoint in Smithtown overnight.

Suffolk County Police arrested four people and seized one vehicle during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Smithtown, police said.

Officers from the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau conducted the checkpoint on Route 25 in Smithtown from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. The operation was conducted for the prevention of injuries and fatalities associated with driving while intoxicated, particularly as a prelude to the Labor Day weekend, police said.

A total of 525 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Max Haller, 22, of Centereach
  • Keith Delauzon, 40, of Nesconset

The following person was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:

  • Taylor Tramazzo, 18, of Lake Grove

The following person was charged with DWI, a D felony, as a result of having two prior convictions for DWI within the previous 10 years:

  • Richard Rodriguez, 41, of Nesconset

The above individuals will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
