Police Seek Man Who Broke Into Church Donation Box

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate a man who stole money from a Smithtown church last month.

Police say a man entered St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 280 East Main St., and sat in a pew for an hour before he used tools to pry open a donation box on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. The man fled with more than $100, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
