Renowned MIT Physicist David Pritchard to Discuss Importance of Mentoring at Dowling College's 10th Annual Practical Research Symposium

Long Island Business Leaders Look for Ways to Keep Young Long Islanders from Fleeing Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Long Island honor students and Long Island business leaders met at Dowling College’s Oakdale Campus to talk about the importance of Long Island educators and business executives teaming to mentor Long Island High School students in an effort to encourage these elite students to remain on Long Island after they graduate from college.

Dana T. Davidson, the Managing Attorney of the Davidson Law Group in Glen Cove was among the members of the Nassau and Suffolk Business Communities who spoke to the students.

The participants included honor students from West Hampton, East Islip, William Floyd, Shirley, Mastic Beach and the Three Village School Districts.

Almost 90 percent of young Long Islanders between the ages of 20 and 34, say they are not happy with the Long Island economy and their overall lives on Long Island and more than half say if Long Island continues to ignore young people’s needs they see themselves moving away after college graduation.

The business leaders addressed their concerns that Long Island’s most vital resource, our young will flee Long Island for better career opportunities and lifestyles elsewhere.

The gathering took place just days before the students participate in Dowling College’s 10th Annual Practical Research Symposium which will focus on mentors and leaders in education and feature renowned MIT Physicist, David Pritchard who has mentored three Noble Prize winners.

Dr. Pritchard who is an expert in mentoring and building bridges and working relationships will be the keynote speaker at the Dowling symposium which will take place on Dowling’s Brookhaven Campus on Saturday March 28th.
