SMITHTOWN, NY — Mr. Hart and Mr. Silliam’s sixth-grade science classes at Great Hollow Middle School experimented with glass and a Bunsen burner as part of their curriculum on learning about chemical and physical changes, the Smithtown Central School District announced.

In mid-January, the classes performed an experiment where they bent glass using a Bunsen burner. In this hands-on experience, the students learned that glass is an amorphous solid as it’s made up of a mixture of materials in such a way that it does not crystallize.
