Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Ducky

SMITHTOWN, NY — Ducky, a 1-year-old male domestic shorthair mix, was named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's featured pet of the week.

"He was brought into the shelter as a stray by a good Samaritan, and he’s ready to live in a purr-manant home where he can be the king of the house," the shelter told Patch. "Ducky is initially a shy fella, but once given a bit of affection, he’ll nudge your hand and ask for more! This sweet cat deserves a quiet home without any children or dogs and a loving furrever family that’ll help him come out of his shell."

There are currently a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

Due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access to confirmed adoption appointments and animal/wildlife rescue. Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended time.
