Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: 4 Kittens

SMITHTOWN, NY — If you like kittens, you'll love this Smithtown Pets of the Week edition. Four of them were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's featured pets.

Primrose, Bugsy, Amber and Sapphire, toddlers ranging from 10 to 16 weeks old, are currently living in the shelter's kitten nursery as they await their home(s).

"Sadly, these little tikes are often passed up for the younger kittens (8-10 weeks) despite their beautiful coats and sweet demeanor," the shelter said. "Statistically, the older a cat is, the more difficult it becomes to place them in a good home. Our hope is to find these beauties loving families while they’re still young."

Kitten season is now all-year, as there are always new kittens coming into the shelter. In 2019, there were more than 100 kittens at the shelter or in foster care, according to the shelter.

There are currently a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

Due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access to confirmed adoption appointments and animal/wildlife rescue. Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for extended time.
