Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Katniss, Mags, & Rue
The rex mix rabbit sisters were left to fend for themselves in Blydenburgh Park. Are you interested in adopting any of them?

SMITHTOWN, NY — Katniss, Mags, and Rue, a set of rex mix rabbit sisters, are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.
They were left abandoned to fend for themselves in Blydenburgh Park, according to the shelter. Parks employees rescued them and brought them to the Animal Shelter unharmed.
"We’re not sure how old these sweet ladies are or where their previous home was," the shelter wrote. "Mags and Rue are very close and tend to stick together, while Katniss can be more independent. They are all spayed and ready for a loving family that will never let them down again."

The Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to safely house animals other than dogs & cats long-term. However, if an animal is in danger and needs housing temporarily until another rescue has room, the rescue said it will do its best to provide safe shelter while it can. While the animal waits for space to open in another rescue, it will be available for adoption through the shelter's Adoption Center.
Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
