Smithtown Board To Vote On Settling Steer Attack Lawsuit: Report

A woman is seeking $20,000 after she says she was attacked by a "ferocious and vicious" steer at Hoyt Farm, according to the report.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown councilmembers are set to vote Tuesday on whether to settle a lawsuit and pay $20,000 to a woman who said she was attacked by a “ferocious and vicious” steer at the Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve in Commack, Newsday reported.

Elaine Aponte's lawyers claimed that Aponte was left with a fractured spine and post-traumatic stress disorder after the steer knocked her and her then-3-year-old niece to the ground with his head from behind his enclosure after an apple caught his eye, Newsday reported. The girl was not hurt, according to Newsday. Charlie is still at the nature preserve, and a town employee told Newsday the town plans on keeping it that way.
