Smithtown Home's Basement Goes Ablaze
Firefighters battled the fire early Saturday. A person trapped in the basement was able to escape the home.

SMITHTOWN, NY — An Abbot Road home's basement went ablaze on Saturday morning, prompting a multi-fire department response led by Smithtown.
Smithtown firefighters were notified of the fire at 6:11 a.m. and were told that a resident was trapped in the basement, said public information officer Rick Torre.
All four Smithtown fire chiefs responded to the home, where they found out that the resident trapped in the basement managed to escape the blaze. Other departments responded, including Hauppauge, Kings Park, Commack, Nesconset, Saint James, and CVAC Ambulance.

Firefighters searched the home and found all occupants got out of the house. The fire was extinguished within 27 minutes from the time the alarm went off.
No one was injured.

Smithtown Fire Chief Patrick Diecidue led the operation.
Smithtown firefighters had also dealt with a fire on Brooksite Drive on Friday night.
