Smithtown Man Sentenced To 60 Years In Prison For Producing Child Porn

The 50-year-old filmed a pornographic video of a 6-year-old girl in his Smithtown home.

A Smithtown man was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Tuesday for producing child pornography in his home, federal authorities said.

Joseph Valerio, 50, was arrested in 2014 after investigators found several hidden cameras, computers and a stage in his home.

“This lengthy prison sentence ensures that the defendant will never harm another child as long as he lives and serves as a warning to anyone who victimizes children,” Acting United States Attorney Bridget Rohde said.

The evidence at trial showed that Valerio paid a Ukrainian woman, Olena Kalichenko to produce over 30 pornographic videos of a then 2-year-old girl that she emailed to Valerio between April and November 2012.

After officials learned of the pornography, in January 2014 federal agents and Suffolk Police executed a search warrant at Valerio’s home.

Investigators found that in September 2010, Valerio produced child pornography in the basement of his house involving a then 6-year-old Long Island girl. He has been in custody since February 2014.

In addition to his prison sentence, Valerio will have a lifetime supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.

“As a parent, hearing details about the child pornography cases we are investigating is extremely hard, so it begins to boggle the mind when the victims are six and two-years-old,” FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney said. “These children can’t fight off their attackers because the abuse is at the hands of adults who are supposed to be feeding, clothing and sheltering them from the evil in the world. No child should ever have to endure this sort of pain, humiliation and abuse."
