Smithtown Police Blotter: $26K In Jewelry Stolen
ALSO: Landscaping equipment was stolen from a trailer, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between Aug. 14 and Aug. 20.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Aug. 18: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Edgewood Avenue in Smithtown from Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. A person stole power tools and gas cans from an unlocked building at Borella’s Farm Stand, police said.
- Aug. 17: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Southern Boulevard in Nesconset from Aug. 11 at 4:30 p.m. Someone stole landscaping equipment, including chainsaws, backpack blowers and hedge trimmers, from a trailer owned by CPC Landscaping, police said.
- Aug. 16: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 11:09 a.m. A man asked to see jewelry at the jewelry counter at Macy’s, police said. When the display case was opened, the man snatched the jewelry and ran, police said. The jewelry was valued at approximately $26,000, police said.
- Aug. 15: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Bayard Street in Lake Grove at 3 a.m. Someone stole a 2021 Dodge Challenger, police said. The Dodge was later recovered in Nassau County, police said.
- Aug. 14: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James at 7 p.m. A person stole four tires and rims and damaged the passenger side door of a 2022 Volvo that was parked at the Empire Volvo Cars of Smithtown, police said.
