Smithtown Residents To Vote On $239 Million Budget This Week

The vote will take place on May 16.

Smithtown residents will head to the polls this month to cast their ballots on a proposed 2017-18 school budget and for school board candidates.

The proposed $239.3 million budget represents a 1.01 percent spending increase over the current year and it includes a 1.73 percent hike in the school tax levy, which is within the state tax cap for the district.

In addition to the proposed budget, there are four candidates running for three seats on the Smithtown Board of Education.

Incumbents Joanne McEnroy and Gladys Waldron will be running unopposed while incumbent Grace Plourde will face challenger Matthew Gribbin.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at Accompsett, Nesconset, Smithtown and St. James elementary schools. If you are unsure of your voting location, click here.
