Smithtown Schools to Host Parent University: Advocating for Successful Children

Series of K-12 workshops set for Oct. 22 at Smithtown HS West.

The Smithtown Central School District is dedicated to partnering with parents to ensure education goes beyond the curriculum taught in the classroom.

The district will host an evening Parent University titled “Advocating for Successful Children” that equips parents with useful tools and information to help them raise a happy, whole and productive child. All parents of students presently enrolled in the Smithtown CSD are invited and encouraged to attend.

Free workshops will be conducted on a myriad of child-centered topics, including:

• Active Listening: Communicating with Your Child
• ADHD and Related Behaviors
• Drug Awareness and Prevention
• Homework Help for Struggling Students
• How to Read Your Child’s IEP
• Nutrition and Wellness
• Resiliency and Growth Mindset
• Stress Reduction and Time Management
• Social Media: Pitfalls and Positive Uses
• Workplace Readiness
