Renovations at Town Hall Completed

Renovations to Smithtown Town Hall were completed on Friday, just in time for the warmer weather. The project included interior and exterior repairs, improved handicap accessibility, and made major infrastructure and traffic safety improvements to portions of the parking lot. Both the Smithtown Parks and the Highway Departments began work early in 2022 in order to complete the project in time for the Spring season. “With so much revitalization underway and on the horizon, this much needed face lift could not have come at a better time. Our Parks Department has always done impeccable work, but they really have outdone themselves. Additionally, the drainage and infrastructure work performed by the Highway Department will prevent future flooding from occurring which will save money and allow us to utilize resources to better serve quality of life for the public.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim The entryway and facade at Town Hall had deteriorated over time. As such, the Parks Department coordinated an overall renovation. The exterior restoration includes the construction of a new platform and steps at the front entrance, new employee entrance, brick walkways leading up to the public (Main Street) entrance, a wider ramp for improved handicapped accessibility, automatic doors, brand new landscaping, railing, and shutters. A portion of the parking lot has been regraded, outfitted with new drainage and paved. Inside the building, a new mailroom, security post and improved access for residents to conduct business was constructed. Prior to the facade improvements, the Town of Smithtown Highway Department had to reconstruct a major portion of the parking lot. In addition to regrading, installing new drainage and the roadbed, the entrances to the Town Hall parking lot were reshaped to add traffic safety measures. These modernized repairs and improvements will be properly maintained in order to avoid costly reconstruction projects in the future. Departments providing additional support for the project include Traffic Safety, Planning, Environment and Waterways, and the Building Department.
