Smithtown Town Hall Offers Drive-Thru Tax Collection

Residents who would like to pay their taxes in person during the pandemic can do so safely. Here's what you should know.

SMITHTOWN, NY — The Town of Smithtown set up a drive-thru for tax collection at Smithtown Town Hall as taxpayers prepare for the Dec. 14 through Jan. 11 payment period. The drive-thru comes as an effort to protect the health and well being of both residents and town staff during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a town news release.

Residents wishing to pay their taxes in person can do so safely from the comfort of their cars. Cash or check payments are accepted in person through the drive-thru, while credit card payments are online only.

The drive-thru is scheduled to be open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Town Hall is at 99 W. Main St., Smithtown.

People requiring a receipt must include their current tax bill. Otherwise, the canceled check will serve as a receipt. In these cases, residents are asked to include district, section, block, and lot numbers on their check.

Residents were asked to wear face masks upon arrival. In an effort to continue social distancing measures, taxpayers are encouraged to use the online system or the tax receiver's drop box, which is located at the side entrance of Town Hall. The secure drop box is checked by Tax Receiver’s Office staff regularly.

All credit card payments must be made online via the Town of Smithtown website from the Tax Receiver’s Page or via the COVID-19 button in the Citizen Help Center on the homepage. Credit card payments can also be made by using the automated telephone system at 1-877-690-3729; Jurisdiction code #4227.

Residents with questions regarding property taxes should call the Tax Receiver’s Office at 631-360-7610.
