Team impresses at Eastern Long Island Division C Regional Science Olympiad Competition.

The Smithtown High School West Science Olympiad Team performed extremely well at the Eastern Long Island Division C Regional Science Olympiad Competition at Brentwood High School, taking home 11 medals.

During the Science Olympiad, students participate in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering. Events fall into three main categories: science concepts and knowledge, science processes and thinking skills, and science application and technology and tasks are either knowledge-based or engineering-based.

Students work in teams of two for most categories and much like an athletic team, Olympiad teams require preparation, commitment, coaching and practice throughout the year. More than 6,700 teams from across the country compete in the Science Olympiad each year.
