Smithtown's Dogwood Students Learn About Black History Month

SMITHTOWN, NY — Second grade classes at Dogwood Elementary worked together to create a mural celebrating Black History Month, the Smithtown School District announced.

Each class read a biography of three important historical figures —Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson,
and Thurgood Marshall. The students identified character traits that made each person unique and discussed why they are important figures in history and today.

Each student colored one square and then the mural was put together.
