SMITHTOWN'S OPTIONS RECEIVES GRANT

The Knapp Swezey Foundation has awarded Options for Community Living a $35,000 grant.

The Knapp Swezey Foundation has awarded Options for Community Living, Inc. with a $35,000 grant, which will help support installation of back-up generators at three of its group homes for Long Islanders recovering from mental illness.

Options currently provides residential services for 352 adults at 101 homes located throughout Suffolk County, and the program continues to expand. The agency plans to purchase and install back-up generators at three of its group homes, which will be designated as emergency centers for individuals in Options’ mental health residential program should a serious weather threat and accompanying power outage occur. Preparing for future power outages in this way will prevent potential psychiatric and medical emergencies and will ensure the safety and care of Options residents, many of whom also have chronic medical conditions.

“Options is grateful for the support of the Knapp Swezey Foundation” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, executive director, Options for Community Living. “The ability to provide support for our residents in Options own housing during a severe weather event and power outage is really the best situation. It also leaves space in public shelters available for others in need.”
