Spring Farm Festival

Smithtown Historical Society hosts Spring Farm Festival, celebrating agriculture, history, and fresh air fun!

Smithtown Historical Society is thrilled to inform you that this year’s Come Alive Outside initiative, co-sponsored by Mazelis Landscape Contracting Corporation, will now play an integral part in our new annual Spring Farm Festival. “The merging of the traditional agricultural sheep to shawl style event with the Come Alive Outside initiative will make the Spring Farm Festival the event it was meant to be, “ noted Executive Director Marianne Howard. “Much of a community’s survival through history was dependent on what was outside their doors. Much of that has been lost in our modern society,” continued Howard. “It’s our goal to bring that back into focus and get people reconnected with the world around them through our history. This partnership is a perfect way to achieve that goal.”

The Spring Farm Festival is a day celebrating spring, outdoor discovery, and Smithtown’s long-standing agricultural history. The May 31st event will feature an assortment of activities, demonstrations, and vendors. The centuries old manner of creating textiles from sheep to shawl will be at the heart of the day, showcasing the process from sheep herding & shearing, fleece washing & carding, to spinning & weaving. People of all ages are encouraged to attend the event where they can expect to have a full day of fun and learning. Guests will have the opportunity to do everything from playing an assortment of old & new field games, start some seedlings, learn about farming, take a hay ride, or watch the Islip Horsemen’s Association perform drills & formations. And if that’s not enough, there’s chances to feed farm animals, lend a hand in prepping and planting the Educational Grow to Give Garden which will help to produce food for local food pantries, or paint a garden picket. Come listen to live music and much more! The event runs from noon to 4p.m. In recognition of Smithtown’s 350th Anniversary the event is free for SHS members and admission for non-members is $5 Adults / $3 children.
