ST. JAMES, NY — Students and staff at St. James Elementary School have set up a sharing table, according to the Smithtown Central School District. The table was set up as part of the students' character education program.

The concept is meant to help local families who are struggling with food insecurity. Each week, a different grade level collects food that families can pick up on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The sharing table is slated to continue through Feb. 11. The students at St. James have learned about showing compassion for others in conjunction with the YES! Character Education program.
