POV’s STATELESS Director, Michèle Stephenson, HARRY CHAPIN: WHEN IN DOUBT DO SOMETHING Filmmakers and BLIND MELON Join Tom Needham on the next SOUNDS OF FILM

Turning its sights 381 kilometers to the west of Puerto Rico to the island of Hispaniola, home to both the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Michèle Stephenson’s Stateless examines the complex racial histories and contemporary politics of the neighboring nations. Sharing one border and a single island, Stephenson takes a deep dive into a sociopolitical crisis that has deep roots in both the island’s history of slavery and dictatorship.

Nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Feature Length Documentary, and winner of the Best Feature Documentary Award at the BlackStar Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize for a Canadian Feature at Hot Docs International Documentary Festival, and the Best Feature Film Audience Award at the Boston Latino International Film Festival, Stephenson’s newest documentary uncovers the complex histories and present-day politics of Haiti and the Dominican Republic by following the grassroots campaign of a hopeful young attorney named Rosa Iris.

HARRY CHAPIN: WHEN IN DOUBT features award-winning singer/songwriter Harry Chapin ("Taxi" and "Cats in the Cradle"), who spent his fame and fortune chasing a dream to end world hunger and poverty, and in the process inspired, changed, and saved the lives of millions of people. The movie features Harry Belafonte, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Sir Bob Geldof, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Bruce Springsteen.

Tom Needham’s guests include director Rick Korn, producers S.A. Baron and Jason Chapin, and singer-songwriter Jen Chapin.

Legendary rock band Blind Melon's Christopher Thorn and Roger Stevens are also Tom Needham's special guests. They will be discussing their innovative documentary, ALL I CAN SAY.

Shannon Hood, the lead singer of Blind Melon, filmed himself from 1990-95 with a Hi8 camera. He recorded himself almost everyday during this period including a few hours before his death at age 28. ALL I CAN SAY is being released 23 years later with Hoon's own footage. The film is considered Hoon's final masterpiece.

The film's title comes from the band's opening line to their most famous song,"No Rain." The film, directed by Grammy-winning director Danny Clinch, features a cameo from Axl Rose, footage of the band's Woodstock 1994 performance, and a clip from their 'Saturday Night Live' debut. The movie also boasts some original film score by Blind Melon's Christopher Thorn.

THE SOUNDS OF FILM is the nation's longest running film and music themed radio show. For the past 30 years, the program has delivered a popular mix of interviews and music to listeners all over Long Island, parts of Connecticut, and streaming worldwide live on the internet.
