Suffolk Announces Virtual Property Auction

The 2021 Suffolk County Real Property Auction is scheduled for December. Here is how to register.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The 2021 Suffolk County Real Property Auction will be held virtually, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced Wednesday. The auction is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

The Suffolk County Property Auction helps relieve the tax burden for county taxpayers and provides a chance for people to become property owners in Suffolk County at a reasonable cost, the county stated.

Registration is open until Nov. 23. To register, click here.

The virtual format this year — a first — will allow for greater participation, as those looking to purchase property do not need to be present in Suffolk. In previous years, people looking to buy property would need to attend the in-person, two-day live auction. Additionally, the virtual format will alleviate staff time and resources, allowing county employees to focus on their normal jobs.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us just how valuable implementing new and emerging technology is," Bellone stated. "As we work to bring County government into the 21st century, the virtual property auction is our latest effort to streamline resources and create greater efficiencies, while simultaneously increasing access."

Earlier this year, Suffolk County selected the vendor Realauction.com, LLC to host this year’s virtual auction. Realauction.com, LLC was selected in October 2020, and there is no cost to the county. A $300 auction fee will be paid by the winning bidder.

The auction website is inclusive of trainings and information on how to navigate this year’s online public auction. All properties are now viewable online using GIS access on the Suffolk County Auction website. Telephone helpdesk services are also available both through the auction vendor RealAuction.com and through the Suffolk County 311 call center.

Approximately 159 parcels are available this year. For a full inventory of properties, click here.
