Wehrheim Officially Defeats Vecchio In Smithtown Supervisor Primary
The result effectively ends the tenure of Patrick Vecchio, who has been supervisor for the last four decades.

Councilman Ed Wehrheim announced he has received word that he was declared the winner in the race for Republican nominee for Smithtown Town supervisor, beating out incumbent Patrick Vecchio who has served in the position for 40 years.
"It was a tough race, we always knew it would be but we prevailed," Wehrheim told Patch.
After the primary election on Sept. 12, the race was too close to call with Wehrheim is leading by a margin of 2,822 to 2,783, according to the unofficial results.
